When a minors turns 18 they move across to our 18+ team where they are encouraged to become more independant. They are assisted in trying to find suitable work or they are helped with claiming housing benefit and Job Seekers Allowance if they are entitled to it.
For many they have reached the end of the road with regards to their asylum claim and so we work with them to consider voluntary return or transfering to NASS for housing provision. This is often a very difficult time as they face up to the reality of their situation. ICN works in partnership with the minors social workers in this post-care period.
